pH

pH is an extremely important parameter for all water quality measurement application. pH is based on a defined scale which range from 0 to 14. The lower the number the more acidic the water is, the higher the number the more basic. Typically a neutral pH is considered to be around pH 7

However in the natural environment this can vary based on a number of environmental conditions. If the pH is too high or low then effects can be seen on aquatic organisms, even causing them to die. The level of pH can also have an effect on the solubility of phosphorus and other nutrients, making them more readily available for plant growth. This in turn can lead to an increasing in plant life, thus reducing levels of dissolved oxygen
